EU E1 is the European standard for formaldehyde emissions from wood-based panels — the most stringent mainstream global standard for this material category. It limits formaldehyde emission to a maximum of 0.1 ppm from panel products. In enclosed acoustic pods, where the air volume is small and users spend extended periods in direct proximity to all surfaces, formaldehyde off-gassing from non-compliant materials accumulates within the enclosed environment. EU E1 compliance means HIGHKA pods do not contribute VOCs from their own materials to the air their users breathe. The ventilation system manages CO₂ from the occupants — not CO₂ plus VOCs from the pod’s construction.
